Greetings from Mt. Hermon!
Our first day/night has been such fun! Yesterday, upon arrival, our kids met their naturalists, got into their groups, and headed out. Many spent the afternoon climbing the rock wall, others hiked to the creek, and yet others were inside learning about fun, exciting things such as snakes and tarantulas.
Last night, the whole camp experienced campfire - which is a highly energetic and hilarious night! The naturalists put on quite an amazing show - filled with crazy songs, overly-dramatic (yet completely fun) skits, and, of course, S'mores. What is campfire without sugary-goodness?
Today, the students have been rotating through their classes - many of them are having their chance at the rock wall. I'm just down the hill from the rock wall right now, and I can hear the yells of encouragement and the shrieks of joy as they climb. It's always fun to hear the cheers when one reaches the top and rings the bell.
Tonight is their night hike. The trail groups will head into the woods and hike without any flashlights. It's always a challenge for some of our kids, and some of them are a bit worried about the activity. God always shows up in mighty ways for the students during this time, and although they're worried about it now, they look back on it fondly. It's where they grow the most.
Our counselors are phenomenal; I am so blessed by how they interact with our students. We couldn't have asked for a better crop of high school students to love our sixth graders. My favorite time is line-up, when all the cabins are present. It's fun to see our sixth graders in matching beanies or hair ribbons or bandannas, and to know that our high school students have been the cause of that. We are truly blessed.
Thanks for praying for us! We look forward to more incredible adventures with the kids this week!
